The Bioficial Organs Program represents a career-long effort exploring new technologies to combat diseases that target numerous tissues and organs in the human body.  Our approach includes the use of medical devices that maintain organ function until a biological solution is found that restores normal function using cells from the patient.

Our team is developing numerous Bioficial Organs including the Total Bioficial Heart, Bioficial Liver, Bioficial Pancreas and Bioficial Hand.

The development of implantable medical devices, constructed from artificial materials such as metal and plastic, and now constructed using a patients own cells and tissues, has a long and interesting past.  The image below illustrates who I hold as my heroes of medical device and regenerative medicine research and development and clinical translation.
