I have a long-standing interest in the development of medical devices for use in the treatment of various diseases.  Historically medical devices have been created using biomaterials that include plastics, metals and naturally occurring substances such as collagen.  A new generation of medical devices are under development that include the use of living cells, incorporated into the device at the time of implantation.  Below is a picture of the various medical devices I have worked on during my career.  You will see these devices treat diseases that affect every organ in the body and span the body from head to toe:
